Energy storage requirement for Solar PV connected to grid
In this post, energy storage requirement in India by 2032 is given here. The ESS requirement for medium voltage / low voltage grid support based on estimation penetration of solar PV connected to MV and LV grid.

Peak load and annual energy requirements are taken form CEA estimates. In congruence with RE target of 175 GW by 2022, the calculation were done on the basis of 100 GW solar, out of which 40 GW is RTPV, 20 GW is medium size installation and 40 GW is from large solar parks. For the year 2027 and 2032, the ratio of RTPV were taken in accordance with the 2022 targets consisting of 40% RTPV of total solar installed capacity.
Consolidated Energy Storage Road map India by 2032
During calculation of energy storage, electric vehicles have assumed high priority in the country. In India, large cities have emerged as the most polluted cities in India and significant share coming out from automobiles. The government of India has launched a national mission in March 2019 – TRANSFORMATIVE MOBILITY AND ENERGY STORAGE MISSION, with the rapid innovation in the EVs competitive in the near term in EV 2 wheelers, 3 wheelers, Cars, Buses and Good carriers. The expected requirements of batteries for EVs is much higher that for grid support. The study made by power grid corporation of India (POWERGRID) in 2013 for green corridor report suggested 500 MWh of ESS requirement for integration of 31 MW GW of RE.
