Principle of Micro-Stepping
- The rotor of the stepper motor does not rotate smoothly in the half step as well as full step operation but rotor rotates with some jerk when step angle changes.
- The operation of stepper motor with micro step driving result in less vibration and low noise. In order to achieve micro step operation.
- Magnitude of current is kept constant in the phase winding X and current magnitude increases from zero to maximum in the phase winding Y.
- Similarly, the current magnitude of phase winding X increases from zero to maximum whereas the current magnitude of phase winding Y is kept constant.
- This will result in small step angle and it is called as Mini step or Micro step.
- We can achieve 0.018o with micro stepping, resulting 20,000 steps per revolution. Figure shows step mode and steps angle for micro stepping operation.
