Flip Flop Interview Question Answer - 4

Important Questions of Flip Flops

In this post, some of the important questions of flip flops are given. It includes Time delay in master slave flip flop, limitation in the of the master slave flip flop, function of master and slave in the master slave SR flip flop, master slave JK flip flop and master slave SR flip flop, Convert of One type Flip flop into other type Flip flop, applications of flip flop, 2N counter, flip flop is used for frequency division, counting frequency division, Schmitt trigger, types of multi vibrator and free running multi vibrator.

What should be time delay introduced in the master slave flip flop?

  • Width of one clock pulse

How many flip flops do the master slave flip flop consists of?

  • Two flip flops – Master flip flop and slave flip flop

What is limitation in the of the master slave flip flop?

Limitations of Master Slave Flip flop

  • If the control inputs do not held stable while clock is HIGH, the unpredictable condition occurs in the master slave flip flop.
  • This is main limitation of master slave flip flop. This problem is overcome by flip flop called as master slave with data lock out.

Describe the function of master and slave in the master slave SR flip flop.

Function of master section

  • It responds to external S – R inputs at the positive going edge of the clock signal.

Function of slave section

  • It responds to external S – R inputs at the negative going edge of the clock signal.

Describe the internal construction difference between master slave JK flip flop and master slave SR flip flop.

Master slave JK Flip flop – Master slave SR flip flop

  • The logic diagram of the master slave JK and SR flip flop is similar but the output Q is connected back to the input K and output Q bar is connected back to the input J in the master slave JK flip flop.

How to convert one type of flip flop into other type of flip flop?

Convert of One type Flip flop into other type Flip flop

  • The combinational circuit is used to convert one type of flip flop into other type of flip flop.
  • The input of the required flip flop is connected to the input of the combinational circuit and the output of the combinational circuit is connected to the input of the main or actual flip flop.

State the applications of flip flop.

Applications of flip flop

  • Serial to parallel conversion
  • Parallel to serial conversion
  • Counting
  • Parallel data storage
  • Serial data storage
  • Transfer of data
  • Detection of input sequence

How many flip flops are required for 2N counter?

  • One flip flop count up to 2 pulses, two flip flops count up to 22 = 4 pulses.
  • Similarly N flip flop count up to 2N pulses.

How flip flop is used for frequency division?

Flip flop – Frequency division

  • The flip flop may be used for frequency division. One flip flop is used for division of input frequency by 2 whereas two flip flops are used for division of input frequency by 4.
  • Similarly N flip flop may be used for division of input frequency by 2N.

How the flip flops are connected for counting frequency division?

  • The flip flops are connected in the ripple counter mode in which a external signal is applied to first flip flop and output of the that flip flop is connected to the input of the next flip flop and so on.

Whether the Schmitt trigger is a type of flip flop?

  • Yes, It is one type of flip flop.

Describe the function of Schmitt trigger.

  • The function of Schmitt trigger is to convert slowly varying signal into square wave.

Which type of symbol is used to represent Schmitt trigger?

  • Hysteresis loop ( output voltage versus input voltage )

State the different types of multi vibrator.

Types of Multi vibrator

  • Astable – no stable state
  • Monostable – one stable state
  • Bistable – flip flop

Which multi vibrator is also known as free running multi vibrator?

  • Astable multi vibrator
