Testing of Transformer

• The following types of type test, routine test and special tests are performed on the power transformer. 
• These tests are to be performed at ambient air temperature below 50 degree centigrade. 
• The tests are to be performed at manufacturer’s place.

Type tests

The following types of TYPE test to be performed on the transformer.

• Winding resistance
• Voltage ratio and check of voltage vector relationship
• Impedance voltage / short circuit impedance considering principal tapping
• Load loss
• No load loss and current
• Insulation resistance
• Dielectric tests
• Temperature rise
• Tests on ON – load tap changer

Routine tests

The following type of ROUTINE tests to be performed on the transformer.

• Winding resistance
• Voltage ratio and check of voltage vector relationship
• Impedance voltage / Short circuit impedance on principal tapping
• Load loss
• No load loss and current
• Insulation resistance
• Dielectric tests
• Tests on ON load tap changers

Special tests

The following special tests are to be performed on the transformer.

• Dielectric tests
• Zero sequence impedance of three phase transformers
• Short circuit test
• Acoustic noise level
• Harmonics of no load current
• Power taken by fans and oil pumps
