There are some
importance Electrical definitions are given as per IE RULE 1956. All these
definitions are given as per IE rules 1956.
Apparatus
- The apparatus means electrical apparatus including all machines its accessories in which conductors are used.
Bare conductor
- It is a conductor in which insulation is not provided.
Cable
- The cable means insulated single conductor / two conductors / more than two conductor which are laid together in which overall mechanical protection cover for all conductor may be provided or not.
Flexible cable
- It is a cable which consists of one or more core each formed by group of wires such that it is afford to flexibility.
Circuit
- It is arrangement of conductors, active and passive element for the purpose of conveying energy.
Concentric cable
- It is a composite cable in which inner conductor is insulated and one or more outer conductors are insulated from one another and arranged over the inner conductor.
Conductor
- It is any wire, cable, bar or plate used for conducting energy and arranged in the electrically connected system.
Conduit
- It is a rigid of flexible metallic / non – metallic tube in which cable / cables may be drawn for the purpose of mechanical protection.
Cut out
- The function of the cut out is to automatic interrupt the transmission energy through a conductor when current passes rises above its predetermined value.
Dead
- The word dead in the electrical system means at earth potential / disconnected from live system.
Earthed
- Any equipment / metal part is connected to general mass of earth in such manner as to ensure at all time discharge of energy without any danger.
Guarded
- The word Guarded means shielded, covered or protected by suitable casing or metal screen.
Installation
- Any composite electrical unit used for the purpose of generating, transforming, transmitting or distributing energy.
Lighting arrestor
- It is an electrical device which used for diverting or earths any electrical surge of excessive high amplitude and restoring itself after original operation condition.
Linked switch
- It is a switch in which all poles are mechanically linked to operate it simultaneously.
Neutral conductor
- It is a conductor of multi wire system and its voltage is intermediates between the voltages of other conductors of the system.
- It also acts as return conductor in the single phase supply system.
Ohm
- It is unit of resistance.
- It is the resistance offered to an direct current by a column of mercury at the temperature of melting ice 14.45 gram of unit cross sectional area and length of 106.3 centimeter.
Overhead line
- It is any electrical supplying line which is placed above the ground and in the open air ( excluding rail line ).
Span
- It is defined as the horizontal distance between two adjacent supports in the transmission line.
Switch
- It is manually operating device used for opening or closing of electrical connection of circuit.
Switchgear
- It includes switches, circuit breakers, cut out and other electrical devices for operation, regulation and controlling of circuits.
Volt
- It is unit of electro motive force.
- It is electrical pressure steadily applied between two points of conductor having resistance of one ohm produces current of one ampere.
Voltage
- It is defined as the potential difference between two conductors or between conductor and earth.
Low voltage
- It is voltage which does not exceed 250 V under normal operating condition. However the percentage variation is allowed.
Medium voltage
- It is voltage which does not exceed 650 V under normal operating condition. However the percentage variation is allowed.
High voltage
- It is voltage which does not exceed 33 kV under normal operating condition. However the percentage variation is allowed.
Extra High voltage
- It is voltage which exceed above 33 kV under normal operating condition. However the percentage variation is allowed.
