Over Current Protection of Semiconductor by Fuse

• The fault current flows through power converter due to short circuit, surge current or over load condition. 
• The semi conductor device may damage due to increase of temperature due to fault current.  
• The power diodes and SCRs are protected by using fuse in series with supply system. 
• The fast acting fuse is used in place of glass fuse generally. 
• The SCR is protected against fault current by using series fuse connection as shown in the figure B. 

Advantages of Fuse Connection in Series With SCR 

• There is co – ordination between semi conductor device and fuse is done.
• Only one SCR is isolated from power converter if there is fault in single SCR.
